I did not know exactly what to expect last night as I awaited the State of the Union Address. As in the 2020 Presidential debate, it was anticipated that if Joe Biden didn’t make any major gaffes, he would have accomplished what he needed to do politically. That was not a very high bar to attain. Although much farther along in his cognitive decline, last night’s bar wasn’t any higher of an expectation. What I witnessed was a man, obviously in some manner, let’s say highly caffeinated. I don’t have any knowledge of how he was hyped up, but
he was.
In his attempt to be forceful and confident, he came across overly aggressive and angry at times. He “scolded’ the Supreme Court Justices, reprimanded Republicans and quite frankly was not presidential. What was billed to be an attempt to demonstrate cognitive ability and a unifying message quickly went off the rails. Divisive comments rolled off the President's tongue almost faster than you could hear them. The false information could be easily fact checked by the most inexperienced fact checkers at Google and Facebook! I didn’t know what world he is living in but I bet 60 percent of the country would like to live there!
The rhetoric was embarrassing. How many more times are we going to try to connect Donald Trump to Vladimir Putin? Special prosecutors and evidence that continually comes out has proven this was all a lie. How many more times is the President not going to take responsibility for the border crisis he created? How long until he and his administration are held responsible for the deaths, rapes and other victims at the hands of illegal immigrants? To further slap victims in the face, today Nancy Pelosi scolded the President for saying illegal immigrants instead of undocumented immigrants. That is not only pathetic but also a slap in the face of legal immigrants who have entered this country legally. For me, the most appalling part of the evening was when the President called Laken Riley, “Lincoln Riley.” How insensitive and hurtful that must be to her family. Then he says “What about the thousands killed by legals?” What an embarrassment for this country.
With all his demagoguing regarding his failed explanations for a failed foreign policy, an economy that every family in the country knows is floundering, safety for citizens continually in a free fall and the border crisis, Rome continues to burn. Harry S Truman famously stated, “The Buck Stops Here! Even though with today’s inflation its only 50 cents, the buck is nowhere to be found in this administration. No one takes responsibility for the chaos and destruction they purposely continue to cause.
Tonight I did not see what I anticipated. What I saw was a desperate candidate, trying to prove he is still relevant, to a base that is leaving him in droves. He was trying to throw out ridiculous proposals to appeal to a base that is leaving him behind. It was nothing more than a campaign speech to try and save a sinking ship. Quite frankly for 50 years he could have contributed to resolving the issues he rolled off last night. Instead, he helped create them and now he wants to convince you one more time he has solutions to the problems he should have prevented throughout his career.
